Dallas, June 1, 2024 – USA batter Aaron Jones provided one of the first thrilling moments of the 2024 T20 World Cup with a monstrous 103-meter six against Canada in the tournament opener at Dallas on Saturday. Chasing a massive target of 195 for victory, the USA was in a precarious position at 42/2 following the dismissal of skipper Monank Patel in the seventh over.
However, Jones, walking in at No. 4, immediately looked in terrific touch. He raced to 22 off just 14 deliveries, setting the stage for a spectacular innings. The defining moment came in the fifth ball of the 11th over, bowled by Dillion Heyliger. The right-handed batter struck his third maximum of the innings, a colossal 103-meter six. Jones picked up a length delivery on the stumps and sent it soaring over the deep mid-wicket fence. Relishing the moment, he held his pose for the cameras, watching the ball sail far beyond the boundary.
Jones never looked back from that moment. He went on to finish with an incredible 94* off 40 deliveries, helping the USA complete the daunting run chase in only 17.4 overs with seven wickets to spare. His innings featured four boundaries and ten maximums, achieving his highest T20I score. This also marked the USA’s highest-ever run chase in T20Is, opening their T20 World Cup campaign in style in front of a packed house at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.
