In acknowledgment of his remarkable contributions to the team’s progress and success, Afghanistan’s cricket board has extended head coach Jonathan Trott’s contract for an additional year. Trott, the former England batter, assumed the role in July 2022 and concluded his initial 18-month tenure in 2023 with outstanding achievements for the Afghanistan cricket team.
Under Trott’s guidance, Afghanistan celebrated significant successes, notably excelling at the T20 Asia Cup 2022. The team secured its maiden international victory, triumphed in a T20I series against Pakistan, and clinched their inaugural ODI series win over Bangladesh. Furthermore, Afghanistan delivered an admirable performance at last year’s ODI World Cup, securing victories against Pakistan, England, Sri Lanka, and the Netherlands.
The announcement of Trott’s contract extension coincides with Afghanistan’s participation in a three-match T20I series against the United Arab Emirates. Following this, the team is poised to embark on another challenging journey, heading to India for a three-match T20I series scheduled from January 11-17. The extension reflects confidence in Trott’s coaching prowess and his instrumental role in shaping Afghanistan’s cricketing triumphs.
