The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has ignited a fresh controversy surrounding the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 by reportedly opposing the inclusion of Pakistan’s name on Team India’s jerseys. Additionally, the BCCI has decided that skipper Rohit Sharma will not travel to Pakistan for the pre-tournament captains’ press conference and official photo shoot.
This has caused significant tension between the BCCI and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), with the PCB urging the International Cricket Council (ICC) to intervene.
According to PCB officials, the BCCI‘s refusal to send its team to Pakistan, even for formal events, undermines the host nation’s status. The PCB is also disheartened by reports that India wants to exclude Pakistan’s name from jerseys and relocate key pre-tournament events to Dubai.
A PCB official expressed disappointment, stating, “We believe the ICC will not let this happen and will ensure fair treatment for the host nation.”
BCCI Requests ICC to Shift Champions Trophy Events from Pakistan to Dubai
The BCCI, however, remains firm on its stance, citing concerns about logistics and player safety. A BCCI source confirmed that they have requested the ICC to shift both the captains’ press conference and photo shoot to Dubai.
The Champions Trophy, scheduled to begin on February 19, will see matches being co-hosted by the UAE and Pakistan, with the BCCI’s decision further straining relations between the two cricketing boards.
This growing friction has once again highlighted the longstanding political and cricketing tensions between India and Pakistan, leaving fans and stakeholders closely watching ICC’s response to the escalating issue.
