Portuguese football sensation Cristiano Ronaldo expressed his pride after clinching three prestigious awards, including the coveted top scorer accolade, for his exceptional performance in the Saudi Pro League.
Taking to Instagram on Saturday following his remarkable achievements at the 2023 Globe Soccer Awards, the Al-Nassr star shared three photos of himself holding the awards along with a caption that conveyed his gratitude: “Proud to have won three awards today. A big thank you to all the staff, teammates, and fans who keep making me better every day!”
Ronaldo’s extraordinary goal-scoring feat of 54 goals in 59 games for Al-Nassr overshadowed competitors such as Kylian Mbappe, Harry Kane, and Erling Haaland, who managed 52, 52, and 50 goals respectively in three of Europe’s top five leagues.
Despite the ongoing debate surrounding comparisons, Ronaldo, speaking at the awards ceremony, boldly declared himself ‘the best goalscorer’ of the season.
The awards ceremony also witnessed a meeting between Cristiano Ronaldo and Erling Haaland, two footballing superstars who had outstanding years in their respective leagues. Haaland, often likened to Ronaldo for his goal-scoring prowess, aspires to challenge the legendary player’s records, particularly in the UEFA Champions League.
