Dravid, Gopichand Share Insights at BCCI’s NCA Coaching Event

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently organized a High Performance Coaches Symposium at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. The event brought together some of the most respected figures in Indian sports, including former India men’s head coach Rahul Dravid, Chief National Coach for the India badminton team P Gopichand, and cricketers Mohammed Shami and Ravichandran Ashwin. The symposium was described by the BCCI as a “coming together” of diverse perspectives on achieving coaching success at the highest levels of sports.

The BCCI shared photos of the event on social media, highlighting the participation of Ashwin virtually, while former India batting coach Vikram Rathore and former India pacer Vinay Kumar were present at the venue. In a statement on X, the BCCI expressed the significance of the symposium: “The High Performance Coaches Symposium which was held at the NCA was a coming together of different perspectives on the tenets of coaching successfully at the highest level. Former #TeamIndia Head Coach Mr. Rahul Dravid, Mr. P Gopichand, Mr. R Ashwin, and Mr. Mohd. Shami addressed the attendees to share their experiences of imparting and benefiting from good coaching practices.”

The NCA provides a comprehensive coaching curriculum through three levels, covering essential aspects such as basic principles, session planning, player assessment, team management, and advanced skillsets. The level-three coaching for this year concluded just a few days ago on August 10. The BCCI emphasized the importance of the training modules, stating, “The attendees of this important course learned about skill training and leadership, which will help them as they continue to grow in their coaching careers.”

Rahul Dravid, who headed the NCA from 2019 to 2021 before becoming the India head coach, played a key role in shaping the academy’s coaching programs. P Gopichand, a highly respected coach in Indian sports, was recently part of India’s badminton contingent at the Paris 2024 Olympics, further underscoring the cross-disciplinary approach of the symposium.
