In a major development ahead of the 2025 IPL season, former West Indian captain Dwayne Bravo has been appointed as the mentor for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). On Friday, September 27, Bravo officially replaced Gautam Gambhir, who stepped down from his mentorship role at KKR to take over as Team India’s head coach.
Dwayne Bravo previously served as the bowling coach for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the last two IPL editions. His association with CSK goes beyond his coaching stint, having been an integral part of the team as a player from 2011 to 2022. Known for his charismatic presence and strong rapport with fans, Bravo’s departure from CSK marks the end of an era.

Following his move to KKR, Dwayne Bravo took to Instagram to share a heartfelt message with CSK fans, urging them to continue supporting him despite the switch. In the video, Bravo thanked the CSK management for giving him their blessings to join KKR and emphasized his excitement for the new chapter in his career.
“Vanakkam, this is a champion. “The news is out now—I have accepted the role to be the mentor for the Knight Riders team,” Bravo said. “I want to take a moment to thank the CSK management for giving me their blessings to move forward.”
Speaking to CSK’s loyal fans, Bravo said, “To my fans in Chennai and all the CSK supporters around the world, I ask for your blessings and support as always. I know this is a sad moment for you, but I hope you’ll keep cheering for me in everything I do. Lots of love and ‘yellove’ as always. See you soon and on the other side.”
Notably, Dwayne Bravo announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Thursday, September 26, a day before his appointment at KKR. With an illustrious career that includes 631 wickets from 546 innings, the 40-year-old holds the record for the most wickets in T20 cricket.
As Bravo embarks on his mentorship role with KKR, his legacy with CSK remains intact, with fans appreciating his contribution to the team’s success over the years.
