In a significant development for Indian cricket, former cricketer Gautam Gambhir has been named the new head coach of Team India, succeeding Rahul Dravid. Gambhir has signed a three-year contract and will oversee the national team across all formats. This appointment follows Gambhir’s recent success with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), leading them to their third Indian Premier League (IPL) title.
Gautam Gambhir was among the select candidates interviewed for the role after Dravid announced his intention to step down, having served as head coach since late 2021. In the interim, VVS Laxman is handling coaching duties for the ongoing tour of Zimbabwe, while Gambhir is set to assume his new position ahead of the upcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka.
