Newly-appointed Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir was visibly emotional after receiving a heartfelt message from his predecessor, Rahul Dravid. The video, shared by the BCCI on their social media handles, showcased Dravid’s farewell and encouragement for Gambhir.
Dravid, who coached India from November 2021 until the end of the 2024 T20 World Cup, signed off on a high note with India’s victory in the ICC event in the West Indies and the USA. His tenure also included leading India to the World Test Championship (WTC) final and the ODI World Cup final last year.
As Gambhir prepares for his first assignment in India’s white-ball tour of Sri Lanka starting on Saturday, July 27, Dravid left an inspiring message for his successor and former teammate. Gambhir expressed how emotional the message made him feel, highlighting the impact of Dravid’s words.
“I don’t usually get emotional, but this message made me very emotional. It’s a wonderful message. I hope I can fill the big shoes left by Rahul with skill, honesty, and transparency. I aim to make the entire nation proud,” Gambhir said.
Gambhir, who recently guided Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to their third IPL title as a team mentor, previously captained the franchise to their first two titles in 2012 and 2014.
