This marks India’s first assignment since clinching the T20 World Cup title against South Africa on July 29. With senior players resting, Shubman Gill takes charge of the youthful side, featuring several new faces.
BCCI Shares Images of Depart for Zimbabwe Tour
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared images capturing the squad’s departure, prominently featuring coach VVS Laxman alongside talents like Avesh Khan, Ravi Bishnoi, Abhishek Sharma, and Riyan Parag. Notably absent from the visuals was Gill, who, despite being part of the T20 World Cup reserves, had been granted an early departure to unwind, recently spotted attending the Copa America in the United States. He is anticipated to join the team directly from there.
In addition to those pictured, stalwarts from the T20 World Cup-winning squad currently in Barbados, such as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, Rinku Singh, Shivam Dube, and Khaleel Ahmed, are expected to link up with the Zimbabwe-bound contingent following their engagements in the Caribbean.
The squad announced for the Zimbabwe tour includes a mix of promising talent: Shubman Gill (Captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Abhishek Sharma, Rinku Singh, Sanju Samson (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), Shivam Dube, Riyan Parag, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar, and Tushar Deshpande.
Shivam Dube earned his place in the squad as a replacement for the injured Nitish Reddy, ensuring depth in the all-round department for India’s campaign in Zimbabwe.
