During Kolkata Knight Riders’ recent clash against Mumbai Indians at Eden Gardens, young cricketer Ramandeep Singh found himself in hot water, resulting in a fine of 20 percent of his match fees. The 27-year-old was penalized for violating the IPL Code of Conduct, committing a Level 1 offence under Article 2.20. Ramandeep promptly admitted to the breach and accepted the sanction imposed by the Match Referee.
Amid this disciplinary action, Kolkata Knight Riders secured a significant victory over Mumbai Indians, securing their spot in the playoffs for this season. Despite a rain-shortened match, KKR emerged victorious by 18 runs. Ramandeep himself contributed 17 runs off 8 balls to the team’s total.
The match saw KKR facing initial setbacks with the loss of openers Phil Salt and Sunil Narine. However, resilient performances from Venkatesh Iyer, Nitish Rana, Andre Russell, and Rinku Singh helped them post a competitive total of 157/7 in their allotted 16 overs. Notable bowling efforts from Piyush Chawla and Jasprit Bumrah for MI kept the pressure on.
In response, Mumbai Indians’ opening pair Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma provided a promising start with a 65-run partnership. But KKR’s bowlers, led by Varun Chakravarthy, Andre Russell, and Harshit Rana, staged a remarkable comeback, restricting MI to 139/8 at the end of 16 overs.
With this victory, Kolkata Knight Riders now lead the points table with nine wins and three losses, totaling 18 points. In contrast, Mumbai Indians find themselves at the bottom with four wins and nine losses, facing an uphill battle to revive their campaign in the tournament.
