Kapil Dev Reminisces with Anshuman Gaekwad, Urges Him to Stay Strong
Kapil Dev, recalling their playing days, highlighted the camaraderie and memorable moments they shared on the field. “Hi Anshu, I know you’re having a tough time right now, but it’s okay, we all face hard times. I remember the good old days when you were my captain, and when I was captain, you scored 200 runs in Jalandhar against Pakistan. Tough times come and go, but I know you’re a fighter. Stay positive and live your life. I hope you get better and happier.”
Responding to Kapil’s call, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah announced a financial aid of ₹ 1 crore to support Gaekwad’s treatment and recovery. The announcement underscores the cricket board’s commitment to supporting its former players in times of need.
Former Indian cricketer Sandeep Patil also joined in, calling on the BCCI to provide financial assistance and extending his heartfelt wishes to Gaekwad.
Anshuman Gaekwad, now 71, played 40 Tests and 15 ODIs for India between 1975 and 1987, scoring over 2,000 runs with two centuries and eleven half-centuries. His contributions as a player and coach have made a lasting impact on Indian cricket.
As the cricketing fraternity rallies around Gaekwad, the collective support and well-wishes aim to provide him strength and positivity during this challenging time.
