As the T20 World Cup 2024 unfolds on West Indies soil, the England cricket team has enlisted the expertise of Caribbean icon Keiron Pollard. The 36-year-old, renowned for his T20 prowess, will serve as a batting consultant to aid England in navigating the local conditions. Pollard, a veteran of 101 T20Is and a member of the 2012 T20 World Cup-winning West Indies squad, brings a wealth of experience, having participated in 654 T20 matches throughout his career.
Pollard’s role as a batting consultant marks his inaugural stint with a national team, following his successful tenure as the batting coach for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) since 2022. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) aims to leverage Pollard’s extensive knowledge of West Indian cricket conditions to bolster England’s T20I campaign.
After the prestigious tournament, England displayed their form by clinching a 2-0 victory over Pakistan in a bilateral T20I series. England Skipper Jos Buttler’s stellar performance earned him the Player of the Series accolade.
England is poised to commence their T20 World Cup journey against Scotland at the iconic Kensington Oval in Barbados on June 4. Placed in Group B alongside Australia, Oman, Namibia, and Scotland, England aims to defend their T20 World Champions title with Pollard’s strategic insights and guidance.
