Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured their place in the IPL 2024 final with a commanding eight-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. This triumph caps off a stellar season for KKR, who finished at the top of the points table in the league stages, amassing 20 points from 14 games.
Chasing a target of 160, KKR showcased their dominance by finishing the game in under 14 overs. This victory further boosted their confidence, as they have won matches convincingly in recent weeks. In a video from March 16, KKR’s mentor Gautam Gambhir emphasized the team’s unified mission, stating, “Everyone in this group will be treated equally. There is no senior or junior, no domestic or international because we have one mission: to win this IPL. Everyone must follow this simple path. On 26th May, we should be there, giving everything positive, and it starts today. It doesn’t start on the 26th (May) or the 23rd (March); it starts today.”
KKR’s dominant performance in the Qualifier saw them restrict SRH to 159 in the first innings. Australian speedster Mitchell Starc set the tone early by dismissing Travis Head in the first over, ending his spell with three crucial wickets. Despite a valiant half-century from SRH’s Rahul Tripathi, the team couldn’t post a competitive score.
Fans celebrated KKR’s achievement as the team advanced to their fourth IPL final. They now await the winner of Qualifier 2 to determine their opponent in the much-anticipated final.
