Star batter Virat Kohli and leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal took to social media to express their delight after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Thursday, July 4. PM Modi hosted the T20 World Cup-winning Indian team for breakfast upon their return from Barbados, where they had extended their stay due to a hurricane after their triumph on Saturday, June 29.
Kohli and Chahal Shared Posts on Social Media
Rohit Sharma and his teammates arrived at No. 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, greeted by an enthusiastic reception. Virat Kohli, reflecting on the occasion, stated, “What a great honor meeting our honorable prime minister Shri Narendra Modi ji today @narendramodi. Thank you sir for inviting us to the Prime Minister’s residence.” Kohli also shared a photo of himself shaking hands with PM Modi during the breakfast session, capturing the moment’s significance.
Visuals shared by the Prime Minister’s Office showed Kohli in conversation with PM Modi, amidst a gathering filled with smiles and laughter. The Prime Minister listened intently as the T20 world champions shared anecdotes from their successful campaign.
Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal also expressed his gratitude, thanking PM Modi for his encouragement. He joined other key players, including captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Rahul Dravid, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah, in sharing their experiences and stories from the World Cup journey with the Prime Minister.
The breakfast meeting, lasting approximately 90 minutes, concluded with a group photo featuring the entire Indian contingent. In the photo, Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid proudly held the T20 World Cup trophy, with PM Modi standing alongside the team.
After the meeting, the Indian cricket team headed back to the New Delhi airport, preparing to travel to Mumbai for the evening’s felicitation ceremonies. The celebratory events and interactions with PM Modi highlighted the national pride and unity inspired by the team’s remarkable achievement.
