In a heartwarming throwback to gully cricket, Team India stalwart Virat Kohli brought a wave of nostalgia to fans during the 2024 T20 World Cup match against Bangladesh on Saturday, June 22. The match, held at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua, witnessed an interesting moment that delighted cricket enthusiasts.
Kohli Brings’ Gully Cricket Vibes
The memorable incident occurred in the second innings of the match. At the end of the 17th over, Bangladesh batter Rishad Hossain smashed a six over the deep mid-wicket region. As the ball sailed beyond the boundary line, Kohli, with a determined spirit reminiscent of neighborhood cricket games, went in pursuit. He ventured over the hoardings and crawled under the bottom of a podium, ultimately finding the ball. This endearing scene was a reminder of the simpler days of cricket, where retrieving a lost ball was a common sight.
India’s comprehensive victory over Bangladesh by 50 runs was the highlight of the Super 8 clash. Opting to bat first after losing the toss, India set a formidable total of 196/5 in their 20 overs. The batting unit delivered collectively, with Hardik Pandya leading the charge with an unbeaten 27-ball half-century.
The Indian bowlers then showcased a stellar performance to restrict Bangladesh to 146. Kuldeep Yadav was the standout bowler with figures of 3/19, while Jasprit Bumrah (2/13) and Arshdeep Singh (2/30) provided strong support. This dominant performance secured India’s second successive win in the Super 8 tournament, bringing them closer to clinching a semi-final spot. Meanwhile, Bangladesh faced the threat of elimination after suffering their second consecutive loss.
