In a historic achievement for Indian sports, Manu Bhaker won the bronze medal in the women’s 10m air pistol event at the Paris Olympics 2024. This victory marks India’s first medal of these Games and makes Bhaker the first Indian female shooter to claim an Olympic medal.
On July 27, Bhaker qualified for the final with a score of 580 points, placing third among 45 competitors and securing her spot in the final. The 22-year-old’s impressive performance in the final, where she finished with a total score of 239.8, has etched her name in the annals of Indian sports history.
This achievement also represents India’s fifth Olympic medal in shooting, following the successes of Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore (silver in Athens 2004), Abhinav Bindra (gold in Beijing 2008), Vijay Kumar (silver in London 2012) and Gagan Narang (bronze in London 2012). In the final, Korea’s Kim Yeji won the silver medal with a total score of 241.3, while her compatriot Jin Ye Oh clinched the gold with a Games record score of 243.2.
