PM Modi Lauds Kapil Parmar for Historic Judo Bronze at Paralympics

In a proud moment for India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his heartfelt congratulations to Kapil Parmar for his remarkable bronze medal win in Judo at the Paris Paralympics 2024. In a special post on his official X account, PM Modi hailed Parmar’s achievement as a “special medal” for India, celebrating his historic feat as the first-ever Judo medallist for the country at the Paralympics.

The 24-year-old visually impaired para-athlete from Shivor, Madhya Pradesh, secured the bronze medal in the men’s -60kg J1 category with a stunning Ippon, defeating Brazil’s Elielton de Oliveira in just 33 seconds. Parmar’s victory marks a significant milestone, raising India’s overall medal tally at the Games to 25, including five gold, nine silver, and 11 bronze medals.

In his congratulatory message, PM Modi wrote, “A very memorable sporting performance and a special medal! Kapil Parmar had already made waves by winning a silver medal in the same category at the 2022 Asian Games. In Paris, his path to victory included a decisive 10-0 win against Venezuela’s Marco Dennis Blanco in the quarterfinals.

Parmar’s journey to the Paralympics was not without adversity. As a child, he suffered a severe electric shock while playing in the fields, leading to a six-month coma. Despite this life-altering event, his perseverance and dedication to Judo led to this monumental triumph, which stands as one of the key highlights of India’s Paralympics 2024 campaign.
