Prime Minister Narendra Modi thoroughly enjoyed meeting India’s Paralympic heroes on Thursday, September 12. Hosting the athletes at his residence in New Delhi, PM Modi congratulated them for their remarkable achievements at the Paris Paralympics, highlighting the nation’s pride in their success.
One of the most touching moments during the meeting was PM Modi’s interaction with javelin gold medalist Navdeep Singh. The Prime Minister sat on the floor to ensure the Delhi para-athlete could comfortably place a gifted cap on his head. The candid exchange between the two was captured in a video shared by PM Modi on Instagram, which has since won the hearts of many.
PM Modi Sits on Floor to Receive Cap from Paralympic Hero Navdeep
In the video, PM Modi can be seen jokingly asking Navdeep Singh about his intense, expletive-laden roar during the final of the javelin F41 event at the Paralympics. The F41 category is for field athletes with short stature, and Navdeep’s performance was extraordinary. He clinched India’s seventh gold medal at the Games with a personal best throw of 47.32 meters.
After his triumphant throw in Paris, Navdeep was overcome with emotion as he celebrated his victory. In his lighthearted manner, PM Modi teased Navdeep, asking if he felt taller when the Prime Minister sat on the floor to receive his special gift.
“Lag raha na tum mujhse bade ho na? (Do you feel taller than me now?)” PM Modi quipped, sharing a playful moment with the athlete.
Navdeep, in return, requested PM Modi’s autograph on his throwing arm. The Prime Minister gladly obliged, noting with a smile that both of them were left-handers.
Navdeep also recalled how he had promised PM Modi earlier that he would win a gold medal for India at the Games, and his fulfillment of that promise was a moment of immense pride, not just for him but for the entire nation.
The meeting between PM Modi and India’s Paralympians was a celebration of grit, determination, and achievement, with Navdeep Singh’s gold-medal-winning performance standing as a testament to India’s growing prowess in global sports.
