Mumbai Indians’ dynamic wicketkeeper-batter, Ishan Kishan, has found himself in hot water after breaching the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct during a recent clash against the Delhi Capitals. The incident occurred during Match 43 of the IPL 2024 season at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
In a statement issued by the IPL, it was revealed that Kishan committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the league’s Code of Conduct. The specific nature of the offence was not explicitly stated by the IPL organisers. However, Article 2.2 encompasses a range of actions outside the norm of cricket, including acts like hitting or kicking the wickets and causing damage to advertising boards, boundary fences, and other fixtures on the field.
Kishan, upon admission of his offence, accepted the Match Referee’s sanction without contest. As per IPL regulations, the Match Referee’s decision on Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct is deemed final and binding.
While the exact nature of Kishan’s transgression remains undisclosed, the fine levied against him amounts to 10 per cent of his match fees. The reprimand serves as a reminder of the IPL’s commitment to upholding the integrity and spirit of the game, ensuring that players adhere to the established standards of conduct both on and off the field.
