On Tuesday, September 10, Leslie Murdoch, the president of New Zealand Cricket (NZC), announced a formidable 15-player squad for the White Ferns ahead of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. This will be the final T20 World Cup for captain Sophie Devine, who will lead the team one last time.
The squad announcement was made in a heartwarming video shared via the team’s social media handle, featuring two superfans who described the special attributes of each player using a pack of cards.
Sophie Devine, set to play her ninth T20 World Cup, will be joined by Suzie Bates, who, like Devine, has participated in every edition of the tournament since its inception in 2009.
The squad also sees the return of pacer Rosemary Mair, who has recovered from a back injury and impressed in the 2023-24 Super Smash with remarkable figures of 4/5 in the final.
Leigh Kasperek will strengthen the spin-bowling attack, joining Amelia Kerr, Fran Jonas, and Eden Carson. Izzy Gaze is the only member of the squad yet to experience a T20 World Cup.
