After Matt Henry sustained a hamstring injury during the recent ODI World Cup 2023 match against South Africa in Pune, New Zealand promptly enlisted Kyle Jamieson as his replacement on Wednesday, November 1. The 28-year-old is set to arrive in Bengaluru on Thursday, gearing up for New Zealand’s upcoming showdown against Pakistan on Saturday, November 4, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in the flagship tournament.
During the same game against South Africa in the ODI World Cup 2023, the versatile all-rounder James Neesham encountered a scare when he took a blow to his right wrist while bowling in his follow-through. Fortunately, medical assessments have ruled out any fractures, bringing relief to the New Zealand camp. In the lead-up to their last match, the Blackcaps had a spate of injuries to contend with, including Lockie Ferguson’s Achilles problem against Australia.
Furthermore, captain Kane Williamson and Mark Chapman were already sidelined due to thumb and calf injuries. New Zealand’s head coach, Gary Stead, addressed the situation, stating, “Given the severity of Matt’s injury and the tight schedule leading up to the Pakistan match, we couldn’t afford to play a bowler short on Saturday. Matt has consistently delivered world-class performances for us in ODI cricket over the past two World Cup cycles, so we’re anxiously awaiting the results of his upcoming scan.”
