India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Deepthi Jeevanji on social media for her outstanding bronze medal win in the women’s 400m T20 final at the Paris Paralympics on September 3. Praising her perseverance and determination, Modi highlighted Jeevanji as a source of immense pride for the nation.
Deepthi Jeevanji’s achievement was a highlight of Day 6 at the Paris Paralympics, marking India’s third track medal at the Games. She completed the race in 55.82 seconds, securing her place on the podium behind Ukraine’s Yulia Shuliar and Turkey’s world record holder Aysel Onder. Despite an impressive start with a reaction time of 0.164 seconds, Jeevanji narrowly missed the silver, finishing just 0.66 seconds behind the gold medalist.
Prime Minister Modi lauded her efforts: “Congratulations to Deepthi Jeevanji for her spectacular Bronze medal win in the Women’s 400M T20 at #Paralympics2024! She inspires many with her dedication and talent. Her hard work and determination are truly admirable.”
Deepthi Jeevanji, who had previously won gold at the Para Asian Games and the World Championships, demonstrated remarkable grit and determination throughout the race. She held the second position for much of the final stretch but was ultimately edged out by Onder.
Earlier this year, on May 20, 2024, Jeevanji set a world record of 55.07 seconds in the 400m sprint (T20) at the World Para Athletics Championships in Kobe, Japan. This incredible performance earned her a gold medal and qualified her for the Paris Paralympics. However, her record was later surpassed by Turkey’s Aysel Onder, who clocked 54.96 seconds to win silver in Paris.
Deepthi Jeevanji’s remarkable achievements continue to inspire athletes and sports enthusiasts across the nation, as she represents the spirit of perseverance and excellence on the global stage.
