In a heartfelt revelation, departing Team India head coach Rahul Dravid has expressed gratitude towards captain Rohit Sharma for convincing him to extend his tenure after the ODI World Cup final defeat last year. Dravid, who recently concluded his stint after the T20 World Cup 2024, credited Rohit Sharma’s phone call in November for his decision to stay on board for an additional seven months.
BCCI Shares Rahul Dravid’s Emotional Farewell Speech
Dravid expressed his gratitude in a BCCI video, saying, “I’m fortunate to be part of this team that ended India’s 11-year wait for an ICC trophy. Rohit played a crucial role. Thank you, Ro, for urging me to stay on. Despite our discussions and differences, it’s been a joy coaching and captaining this team.”
Acknowledging the support from BCCI officials, Dravid also singled out BCCI secretary Jay Shah for his contributions behind the scenes. “I want to thank Jay Shah and the entire system for their support throughout,” he added.
Rahul Dravid’s tenure as head coach saw Team India achieve significant milestones, culminating in their T20 World Cup victory, marking a memorable conclusion to his coaching journey with the national team.
