In a thrilling display of all-round excellence, Barbados Royals’ star all-rounder Rakheem Cornwall picked up a remarkable five-wicket haul, leading his team to a comprehensive nine-wicket victory over St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the 2024 Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Cornwall’s stunning figures of 5-16 not only decimated the opposition but also earned him the Player of the Match award, as Barbados secured their fifth win in six matches.
The contest, held at Kensington Oval, saw the Royals opting to bowl first, a decision that immediately paid off. Fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq set the tone by removing the dangerous Evin Lewis and Kyle Mayers during the powerplay. Cornwall took over in the middle overs and wreaked havoc with his off-spin, dismissing Patriots skipper Andre Fletcher and Mikyle Louis with his first two deliveries.
Although Wanindu Hasaranga launched a counterattack by hitting Cornwall for a six, the all-rounder bounced back quickly, claiming the Sri Lankan star’s wicket soon after. Cornwall completed his maiden T20 five-wicket haul by taking out Odean Smith and Ryan John, restricting the Patriots to a paltry 110 runs.
