Rishabh Pant to Lead Lucknow Super Giants as Captain for IPL 2025 Season

Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been appointed the captain of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for the upcoming IPL 2025 season. The dynamic cricketer, who has previously captained Delhi Capitals (DC), was acquired by LSG for a record Rs 27 crore during the IPL 2025 auction.

This makes Rishabh Pant the most expensive player in IPL auction history, surpassing all expectations after a bidding war between LSG and DC.

Pant’s appointment as LSG’s skipper comes after a remarkable stint with DC, where he led the team from 2021 to 2024, except for the 2023 season, when he missed the IPL due to recovering from injuries sustained in a car accident.

However, he parted ways with DC ahead of the 2025 season, with leadership being a primary factor behind the end of his nine-year association with the franchise.

LSG’s New Leadership Era

Rishabh Pant will now take the reins at LSG, succeeding previous captains KL Rahul, Nicholas Pooran, and Krunal Pandya. LSG’s performance has seen fluctuations in recent years, with playoff appearances in 2022 and 2023 but a disappointing seventh-place finish in 2024. With Pant’s leadership, the team hopes to return to the playoffs and contend for their maiden IPL title.

In his new role, Rishabh Pant will work closely with head coach Justin Langer, whom he met during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia, and team mentor Zaheer Khan. LSG’s strong batting lineup, featuring Nicholas Pooran, David Miller, Mitchell Marsh, and Aiden Markram, will provide solid support for Pant.

In the bowling department, Akash Deep, Avesh Khan, and Ravi Bishnoi will lead the charge.

Pant’s leadership in IPL 2025 is expected to be a game-changer for LSG, bringing a fresh perspective to their ambitions for the upcoming season. The team’s fans are excited to see how the young star will lead LSG to greater heights.
