Ritika took to Instagram on Monday, July 1, to share her heartfelt message. She highlighted how much the T20 format, his teammates, and the World Cup trophy meant to Rohit. Emphasizing the emotional and inspirational journey of watching her husband lead the team to an ICC title, Ritika wrote: “Ro, I understand the significance of this to you. The format, this championship, these individuals, your journey, and the entire path to achieving your long-cherished goal. I’ve witnessed the challenges you’ve faced in recent months and the toll it’s taken on you physically and emotionally. However, seeing you fulfill your dream has been deeply moving and inspirational.”
The triumph, marked by India’s thrilling seven-run win over South Africa in the final on June 29 in Barbados, also saw Rohit Sharma announce his retirement from T20Is. While Ritika was elated by the victory, she expressed her heartbreak over his decision to step away from the format. In her note, she added: “As your wife, I am immensely proud of what you’ve achieved and the impact you’ve had on this game and the people who love it; As someone deeply passionate about your craft, it’s truly heart-wrenching to witness you step away from any aspect of it. I understand you’ve deliberated extensively on what’s best for the team, yet seeing you relinquish this part is difficult. I love you immensely, and I’m immensely proud to have you by my side!”
The 2024 T20 World Cup also marked the end of T20I careers for senior players Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja, who joined Rohit Sharma in bidding farewell to the format after the monumental win. The trio’s retirement signifies the end of an era in Indian cricket, leaving behind a legacy of unparalleled dedication and achievement.
