After guiding Team India to a dominant 2-0 Test series win over Bangladesh, opening batter Rohit Sharma was recently seen enjoying some downtime in Abu Dhabi. As always, “The Hitman” was swarmed by fans who took the opportunity to express their admiration and share their thoughts with the cricketing legend.
“Let Others Have a Chance” – Rohit Sharma’s Response to T20I Nostalgia
Among the crowd, a few fans couldn’t hide their nostalgia, admitting they missed watching Sharma don the Indian jersey in the shortest format of the game, T20 Internationals (T20Is). One fan openly shared, “Dada, bahot miss kar rahe hai apko T20I mai (We are missing you in T20Is).”
Rohit Sharma, who holds the record as the leading run-scorer in T20I history, appeared humble and reflective. His reply resonated with a sense of satisfaction for what he’s already achieved. “Bass ho gaya yaar (I have played enough, man),” he responded with a smile, hinting at his decision to step away from the format and allow the younger generation to step up.
Rohit Sharma made his T20I debut during the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 and over the years, evolved into one of the most dangerous batters in the format. With 159 appearances for India and a reputation for being a consistent match-winner, his absence in the T20I squad is felt deeply by his fans. However, after eight editions of the T20 World Cup, he announced his retirement from T20Is in June 2024.
While fans may miss seeing him dominate the shortest format, the Indian cricket team is already building for the future. Young, promising openers like Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Abhishek Sharma have stepped up, making their mark and presenting a strong case for selection as India prepares its roadmap for the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Though Rohit has stepped away from T20Is, his legacy in the format remains undeniable, and his influence on the future generation of Indian cricketers continues to inspire.
