In a heartwarming gesture, Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor welcomed Sanju Samson with great fanfare following his remarkable century against Bangladesh on Monday, October 14. To celebrate Samson’s achievement, Tharoor presented him with a ‘Ponnada’, a traditional shawl used to honor individuals in South India. The gesture highlighted Tharoor’s admiration for Samson’s cricketing brilliance, as the Kerala-born wicketkeeper-batter returned to his hometown after a stunning performance for Team India.
Samson’s incredible knock of 111 runs off just 47 balls, which included eight towering sixes and 11 boundaries, set the stage for a historic win in the third and final T20I match against Bangladesh. His 40-ball century, the second-fastest for India in T20Is, helped secure a massive 133-run victory for the Men in Blue, cementing Samson’s reputation as one of the most explosive batters in the format.

I found a ‘ponnada’ in the perfect India colors to honor him with!”
This isn’t the first time Tharoor has backed Samson. The MP has been a staunch advocate for the talented cricketer, even criticizing the national selectors for leaving Samson out of India’s squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup.
