In an exhilarating contest at the Barkatullah Khan Stadium in Jodhpur on Monday, September 23, Gujarat Greats captain Shikhar Dhawan displayed his vintage form, smashing his maiden fifty of the Legends League Cricket 2024. Despite his valiant efforts, his team fell short in their chase of 145 against the Southern Super Stars.
Dhawan, known for his aggressive approach, got off to a flying start, scoring his first 25 runs off just 12 balls. He formed a crucial 63-run partnership with Morne van Wyk, who contributed 15 runs off 19 balls. The captain reached his half-century in 37 balls, finishing with 52 runs from 48 deliveries, including three boundaries and three towering sixes.
However, despite Shikhar Dhawan’s brilliance, the Gujarat Greats’ batting lineup faltered. Lendl Simmons (7) and Mohammad Kaif (5) were dismissed cheaply, and middle-order batters Asghar Afghan (3) and Manan Sharma (10) failed to make a significant impact. The team ended their innings at 118/9 in 20 overs, 26 runs short of the target.
