The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced Shivam Dube as the replacement for the injured Nitish Reddy in India’s T20 squad for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe. The decision comes ahead of a series of five T20 Internationals scheduled to begin on July 6 in Harare.
Shivam Dube, currently playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad, will step into the squad following Reddy’s injury. The BCCI’s medical team is closely monitoring Dube’s progress as he prepares for the tour.
In related selections, youngsters Riyan Parag, Abhishek Sharma, and Nitish Reddy earned their maiden call-ups to the Indian squad based on their impressive performances in the recent IPL season. Led by Shubman Gill, this young squad aims to showcase their talent against Zimbabwe.
Notably, senior players such as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah have been rested after they participated in the ongoing T20 World Cup in the Americas. The decision to rest key players reflects the BCCI’s strategy to manage workload ahead of a demanding cricket season.
Nitish Reddy, who received the Emerging Player title for the 2024 IPL season, will be sidelined due to injury, paving the way for Dube to contribute to India’s campaign in Zimbabwe.
