India’s vice-captain and left-handed opener, Smriti Mandhana, has jumped two places to secure the third spot on the ICC Women’s ODI batting rankings, released on Tuesday. Cricketer Smriti Mandhana’s stellar performance, including a match-winning 117 runs — her maiden century on home soil — led India to a resounding 143-run victory over South Africa in their three-match series.
Smriti Mandhana’s Impressive Score
Smriti Mandhana now holds 715 points, trailing Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu, who slipped to second place. England’s Natalie Sciver-Brunt reclaimed the top spot after her impressive unbeaten 124 against Pakistan last month.
The latest rankings also brought good news for other Indian players. Senior all-rounder Deepti Sharma climbed three places to 20th in the batting rankings and moved up one place to fourth in the bowling list following her economical 2/10 performance in the series opener. Additionally, Pooja Vastrakar advanced three places to 38th in the batting rankings and made significant strides in the all-rounder charts, moving up four places to 18th.
Despite these changes, South African veteran Marizanne Kapp continues to dominate as the number one ranked ODI all-rounder. Meanwhile, England spinner Sophie Ecclestone maintains a comfortable lead at the top of the ODI bowling rankings.
These developments underscore the dynamic nature of international cricket rankings, reflecting the ongoing shifts in players’ performances and standings. Mandhana’s rise highlights her growing influence and consistency in the international arena, marking another milestone in her illustrious career.
