The game, held at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Monday, September 2, was a rollercoaster of emotions, impacted by weather and filled with spectacular performances.
The match began with Kashi Rudras winning the toss and opting to bowl first, a decision influenced by the rainy conditions that reduced the game to 18 overs. Meerut Mavericks faced early troubles as opener Akshay Dubey was dismissed for a duck after facing just two deliveries from Shiva Singh. Rain interrupted play at 3-1 after 1.3 overs, adding to the tension.
Swastik Chikara Breaks Record with Fastest Fifty in UP T20 League 2024
When the game resumed, it had been further shortened to a nine-over-per-side contest. This is when Swastik Chikara took the stage and unleashed an extraordinary batting display. In the sixth over, Chikara stunned the crowd by hitting Karan Chaudhary for four consecutive sixes, reaching his fifty in just 17 balls—a record-breaking achievement for the tournament.
The 19-year-old right-hander continued his onslaught, smashing three more sixes in the eighth over against Shivam Mavi. However, Mavi eventually dismissed Chikara on the last ball of the over. Chikara’s explosive innings ended at 85 runs off just 27 balls, including four boundaries and 10 towering sixes.
