Travis Head Overtakes Suryakumar Yadav to Become Number One T20 Batter

Australia’s opener Travis Head became the number-one batter in the latest ICC T20 rankings on Wednesday, overtaking India’s Suryakumar Yadav.

Suryakumar had been holding the number one spot since December 2023, but Head’s splendid run at the T20 World Cup 2024 catapulted him to the top despite his team getting knocked out in the Super Eight stage.

Travis Head’s Impressive Score

Head scored 255 runs with two fifties, including a 76 against India. The Australian is now two points ahead of Suryakumar (842 points), who is in second place. However, Suryakumar has a chance to reclaim the numero uno position as India’s campaign at the T20 World Cup is still alive.

England’s Phil Salt and the Pakistan duo of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan round out the top five batters.

West Indies’ Johnson Charles is the only new arrival into the top 10, moving up by four spots, while Afghanistan star Rahmanullah Gurbaz sits a place lower after climbing five spots.

Indian pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah made a huge leap, moving up 44 places to reach the 24th spot. Spinner Kuldeep Yadav also climbed 20 places, now just outside the top 10 at 11th.

Spin all-rounder Axar Patel has moved up to eighth, making him the highest-ranked Indian bowler.

England’s Adil Rashid remains the top bowler, while Rashid Khan has moved up to second after his impressive performance in the T20 World Cup. Josh Hazlewood is now in fourth place, just behind Wanindu Hasaranga.

In the all-rounders’ rankings, Marcus Stoinis has dropped from the top spot to fourth. India’s Hardik Pandya has moved up to third, Mohammad Nabi of Afghanistan is second, and Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga is back at the top.
