On Thursday, July 4, the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai witnessed a heartwarming spectacle as Team India players and thousands of fans sang the patriotic ‘Vande Mataram’ by AR Rahman during their victory lap. The day was filled with festivities celebrating India’s title run, starting with an open-top bus parade through the streets of Mumbai. In the late evening, the team arrived at the Wankhede Stadium for a grand felicitation ceremony. The stadium was packed with over 30,000 enthusiastic fans, all joining in the ‘Maa Tujhe Salam’ celebrations.
Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya led the passionate singing of the iconic ‘Vande Mataram’, creating a chilling and unforgettable moment. The BCCI shared a video of this glorious evening on their social media handles, capturing the unity and joy among the players and fans alike.
Earlier in the evening, Indian fans had flooded the roads of Mumbai’s Marine Drive for the victory parade. Despite the rain, they braved the weather to join in the jubilation with the Indian cricket team.
The Indian squad had a busy day, arriving in Delhi from Barbados on Thursday morning and meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence before flying to Mumbai. This grand celebration in Mumbai echoed the scenes from 2007 when India celebrated their maiden T20 World Cup title win in South Africa.
